Golf is a booming business in Tenerife, and this island has established itself as one of Europe’s most popular golf destinations. In Tenerife there are five championship level courses that are open to the public. The island of Gran Canaria itself has six exceptional golf courses. These professionally designed courses are praised by experts as some of the best in Spain.


Tenerife

Abama Golf
LOCATION: Abama Golf is part of the Abama Hotel Resort, which is located in the southwest of Teneriffa.
DESCRIPTION: Golf lovers find an enjoyable challenge on the varied terrain of the Abama Golf Course. This is an incredible course, reaching from a low point of 78 meters above sea level, to a lofty height of 315 meters. This demanding course has white sand bunkers, 22 lakes, and flora that includes more than 90,000 palm trees, making it a rather large, beautiful tropical garden. From each hole there is a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean. An additional nine holes are being prepared. The large greens offer an endless choice of flag positions. Combined with the wide range of tee areas at each hole, this makes for a vast array of challenges for golfers of all skill levels.
COURSE FACILITIES: The Course has a Club House, which is built in the same style as the Hotel and Villas. It has a restaurant, bar, golf shop, meeting rooms, a three-hole practice course, and a Golf Academy.

Golf_Costa_Adeje Golf Costa Adeje
LOCATION: This golf course is only 5 kilometers from Playa de Las Americas.
DESCRIPTION: The design of Golf Costa Adeje integrates the beautiful landscape of Tenerife. There are more than 5,000 meters of restored stone walls that mark the boundaries of a former banana plantation. This gives the golf course a genuine original atmosphere. This is a Par 72, 18 hole golf course which was inaugurated in October of 1998 with six 5-par holes, six 4-par holes, and six 3-par holes. It has rapidly grown from a place known only to a few insiders, to one of Spain’s most important golf courses. It was the site of the 1999 BMW Golf Cup International World Final, the 2003 Open de Espana, and the 2005 Tenerife Ladies Open.

Golf Las Americas
LOCATION: The Las Americas Golf Course is located in the southern part of the beautiful island of Tenerife, at Playa de las Americas.
DESCRIPTION: The Las Americas Golf Course is in one of Spain’s largest tourist resorts. It is adjacent to gorgeous beaches, and lies in a natural, gently sloping amphitheatre. A range of hills protects it from the wind. The climate is ideal no matter what the season. Average temperatures are 21 C to 25 C, with an amazing 3,200 hours of sunshine a year.
Among the many impressive features of this golf course are its streams and waterfalls. They contribute to a uniquely pleasant environment.  The itinerary offered here is varied, with a standard and scratch par of 72. The course is 6,039 meters long.
COURSE FACILITIES: The Club House is set in a lovely topographical background, along with the practice course, tee 1 and tee 10, and greens 9 and 18. You will find a wide range of services including a bar and cafeteria, bag and club custody service, pro-shop, buggy and caddie cart hire, and a golf school.

Golf_Los_Palos Golf Los Palos
LOCATION: This golf course is at the southern tip of the island, only fives minutes from Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos.
DESCRIPTION: Situated in a place where the climate is beautiful all year round, the Las Palos Golf Palos Golf Center is a par 27, nine hole course. It is spread over one level, with a slight inclination, and features beautiful streams and waterfalls. It’s the ideal course for beginners or for golfers who want to improve their short game. You can enjoy a few hours of golf, surrounded by banana trees. The course is popular with businessmen who have time for only a short game, and families with children who are just learning.
COURSE FACILITIES: There is a PGA professional driving range, chipping area and putting green, individual and group classes given in several different languages, restaurant, golf shop, changing rooms and showers, and a children’s area. The terrace has a terrific view.

Golf Del Sur
LOCATION: Golf del Sur is just a short distance from Riena Sofia Airport, on the south coast of the island.
DESCRIPTION: Golf del Sur is an oasis of green that is centered by a 27 hole championship golf course. It has hosted several international events. This spectacular course features broad fairways, striking black volcanic sand bunkers, and eight thousand palm trees around the course. Pepe Gancedo designed the thoroughly enjoyable layout of this Tenerife course. Hole number three on the north course is especially difficult. To the right of this wide fairway there is a water hazard. Beyond that is a large ravine with an ochre colored rock face, and a gaping black sand bunker. The southern course also has a hole that is known for being difficult. It is a par 3 of 193 meters, with a green surrounded by a large bunker of black sand.

LOCATION: The Canary Islands Golf Course is located on the south coast of Tenerife, 15 kilometers from Playa de Las Americas.
DESCRIPTION: The Amarilla Golf and Country Club has 13 holes running along the sea coast. It has amazing ocean and mountain views.
Because of the large size of this course, even when it is busy you rarely have to wait to tee-off. The Amarilla Golf and Country Club is one of the largest and most fascinating clubs of its kind in the world. The course is surrounded by barrancos and a residential development. This presents a stiff challenge for the advanced golfer, at the same time that it offers an enjoyable and attractive venue for the novice player.From the very first tee you can see magnificent ocean views. When you move on to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th holes, you are surrounded by a great variety of tropical flora, including Indicas, Washington palms, and Canarian pines. The 5th hole is the most impressive. This is a real jewel to golf lovers. The sea becomes part of the fairway, and you must cross the water to reach the green. You temporarily leave the shoreline for the next holes, but you still enjoy the terrific view of the mountains, dominated by majestic Mount Teide. At the 12th hole you return to the seaside and the cool ocean breeze. Once you have shot the next three holes, you can take a break at the Pro Shop terrace. Then you’ll be ready to take on the last three holes with their challenging bunkers of volcanic sand.  The proximity of neighboring Golf del Sur Course makes San Miguel the county with the most golf holes on the island.
This course is a challenge for the skilled golfer, and fun for the beginner. The 18 holes cover a great variety of terrain.
COURSE FACILITIES: The facilities here include a driving range, putting green, pro-shop, equestrian center, and a club house with a tennis course. There is a swimming pool, bar and restaurant. This course was inaugurated in 1989. In 1990 it hosted the second edition of the Tenerife Open, which is part of the European P.G.A. Tour.

buenavistagolf Buenavista Golf Canary Islands
LOCATION: The Buenavista Golf Course is in the extreme northeast corner of Tenerife, in the shadow of the Teno Mountain range, a national park and protected area. The region is known for its year-round mild climate.
DESCRIPTION: Buenavista means “Beautiful view”, and this course certainly lives up to its name. It has broad, fast greens, long par 4s, and a very unique number 1 green. The course is set in an oasis of magnificent eucalyptus trees, stately pines and Mexican palms. There are many challenging lies, because most of the holes must be played uphill or downhill. There are lovely views of the nearby Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area, as well as the lush valley and towering mountains.
There is a breathtaking view of the rugged coastline of Isla Baja. That helps make Buenavista one of the most spectacular golf courses on this side of the Atlantic, and playing here could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. This is an 18 hole course, 6,019 meters long. It has six par 3s, six par 4s, and six par 5s. They provide the ultimate challenge for golfers of all skill levels. Some of the greens are right on the ocean’s edge, making for an absolutely wonderful backdrop.
COURSE FACILITIES: The course has a clubhouse with panoramic views of land and sea. It’s a great place to have a meal or a drink.

Gran Canaria

El Cortijo Club De Campo Golf Canary Islands
LOCATION: El Cortijo Club De Campo is situated near the city of Telde, just 6.4 kilometers down the GC-1 motorway from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the capital city. It is half way between the city and the airport.
DESCRIPTION: This course was designed with the celebration of big events in mind. It is a very challenging course, with broad, fast greens, and very long holes from the back tees. There is plenty of room for TV cameras, but consideration is also given to the needs of regular golfers. Some holes have as many as six tee boxes.El Cortijo Club De Campo is set in three lovely valleys, with six lakes and 600 palm trees. It has been marvelously adapted to the natural surroundings, while at the same time serving its purpose as an ideal venue for prestigious international competitions. It was made to order for professional golfers. However, with up to six tees per hole, it is an enjoyable course for players of every skill level.
The fairways are planted with Bermuda 419 grass, which thrives in dry, salty conditions.
The greens have been constructed according to the high quality standards of the USGA. They have been seeded with a type of Agrostis called Providence.
COURSE FACILITIES: This course has a golf school, practice course, chipping and putting greens, a practice bunker, as well as rental facilities for bags, clubs and carts.

Maspalomas_Golf Maspalomas Golf Canary Islands
LOCATION:Maspalomas is located in the southeastern part of the island, in one of the sunniest locations on earth. This is the island’s most popular tourist area, with gorgeous beaches of fine golden sand, large luxury resorts, and smaller hotels that offer all of the required facilities.
DESCRIPTION:This course features a unique two-storey driving range that has a reach beyond 300 meters. The 18 holes are placed strategically among large bunkers of fine, golden sand. The whole course is bordered by sand dunes. It is very near the famous Maspalomas beach.
The course here is quite long and flat, but with broad lanes. Even on the hottest days you can golf in comfort, thanks to the cool breezes that come off the sea. This 18 hole, par 73 course has hosted international events. It has a practice green and driving range, instructors, and facilities for the rental of bags, clubs and carts, as well as a shop, bar and restaurant.
Visitors can arrange excursions to the dunes, and to the beautiful beaches of Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas. You can also visit the Fataga Ravine, La Charca Nature Reserve, the village of Mogan, Sioux City Theme Park, and the Guanche Caves.
COURSE FACILITIES:The Clubhouse here has an excellent restaurant and snack bar. Among the other facilities are a driving range, a golf school and clinic, pro shop, and putting and pitching greens.

Real Club de Golf Las Palmas Golf Canary Islands
LOCATION:This golf club, which has excellent views of central Gran Canaria, is located just 15 minutes from Las Palmas. It is adjacent to the Calera de Bandama volcano.
DESCRIPTION:The Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas was founded on a site called Lomo del Polvo in 1891, making it the very first golf course in Spain. It has spectacular views of magnificent, deep ravines. In 1956 the club was transferred to the Plains of Bandama. It is next to an extinct volcano that has a diameter of 800 meters, and is 200 meters deep. This is a relic of Gran Canaria’s volcanic origin about 14 million years ago.
The 18 holes golf course is par 71. It has two putting greens, on of which is floodlit at night. It has a practice tee, a pitching green, qualified instructors,  a club rental service, pro shop, and a fine restaurant with an excellent wine cellar. The course is somewhat uneven, but the main challenges are the many trees that surround the fairways, the bunkers at the driving area, and the flat but well designed greens. The hazards are very obvious, so the golfer can adapt his or her game without any unpleasant surprises.
COURSE FACILITIES:There are two tennis courts, horseback riding, a pro shop, a swimming pool, and buggies. For those who want accommodation close to the course, there is a golf hotel.

salobre_golf Salobre Golf Canary Islands
LOCATION:This course is set in landscape that is typical of the southern part of the island. The earth here is volcanic, with many ravines. There are great views of mountains and sea. Lush green gardens provide a stark contrast to the surrounding desert.
DESCRIPTION:
Salobre Golf Canary Islands is one of the most recently developed courses on Gran Canaria. It provides challenging fun for golfers of all skill levels. The natural features of the terrain and the beautiful flora all contribute to the pleasant tropical atmosphere. There are more than 600 species of trees and other plants. This is an 18 hole, par 71 course, occupying a six kilometer area. An additional course is under construction. It is an exciting course that presents golfers with a variety of challenges. Some people say it resembles golf courses in the state of Arizona.
COURSE FACILITIES:
The facilities here include a golf school, a practice area, driving range and putting green, club rentals, pro shop, hydro massage parlor, valet parking, and a restaurant with a terrace.
