Guide to Estepona on the Costa del Sol
Estepona, the charming town situated on the south coast of Spain on the Costa del Sol, has many features that make it particularly popular with visitors and residents alike. But for us, the one thing that Estepona is most famous for is its beaches.

Estepona is known for having some of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of Spain. These long, white, sandy beaches that stretch out for 21 km along the coast attract many tourists from across the country and the world. And as well as this the town is lucky enough to experience over 300 days of sunshine every year, meaning you will be able to enjoy the beaches practically any time that you wish.
Amongst the numerous beaches to enjoy, the very best for us to recommend include Playa de Cristo, which is only five minutes away from Estepona Port, and Playa La Rada, the long, sandy beach which goes right past the Old Town.
As well as spending time on the beaches, golf is a another popular pastime for residents of Estepona. There are numerous courses to choose from for all tastes and skill levels, but some of the best include the Monte Mayor Golf and Country Club, which is almost entirely natural in its formation and therefore offers a real challenge for even the most expert players, and Estepona Gold Course, which has some stunning sea views and is located just a mile outside of the town.
Within the town itself there are a large number of bars and restaurants for you to enjoy. We should make it clear that this is not a town famous for its nightlife, which means that if you are keen on partying then you would do better to look to some of the other resorts in the area. However, the advantage of this is that Estepona is not overrun by hoards of tourists, and instead provides a great atmosphere for al fresco dining. Spanish and Mediterranean cuisines are both found in abundance, and sitting outside to eat dinner during the long, warm evenings is a very popular activity in the town.
Shoppers are well catered for, and with all the basics present in the town, including numerous food shops and even a couple of supermarkets, you will not have to travel out of the town for any food requirements. Local arts and crafts are also popular, but on top of this there are a number of more upmarket boutiques for international brands. However, for those keen to do some serious shopping, Gibraltar is only a 40-minute drive away, anEstepona Portd here you will be able to enjoy shopping at duty-free prices.

The town has an interesting mix of Roman, Muslim and Phoenician heritage, which is clearly seen through the architecture and a number of important sites within the town. Perhaps the most important is La Iglesia de Los Remedios, but the Clock Tower and The San Luis Castle are also high on the list of things to see and do. The Plaza de Torros, or the bull ring, is also one of the major attractions of the town with its unique elliptical design, and we recommend a visit for the striking design alone.
Festivals take place in the town throughout the summer, so in June and July you should be prepared for some serious partying. Two of the biggest are Quema de Los Bigotes de San Juan and the Virgen del Carmen celebrations, but there are plenty more to enjoy. The Feria, which takes place in August, is perhaps the most important.
The mix between the beaches on one side and the stunning mountains on the other, the beautiful all-year sun and the pleasant feel of the town, all go together to make Estepona one of the most popular places to live in the entire Costa del Sol.
