I Need Spain – Campaign To Promote Spanish Culture

As is the case for so many countries, the current economic recession has inevitably taken its toll on the tourist industry in Spain’s Costa del Sol region, although it has to be said that the effects have been far less acute here than elsewhere.  Nevertheless, tourism chiefs have come up with a new campaign called ‘I Need Spain’ to promote the country as a first-class cultural and gastronomic destination for those looking to holiday in Spain.

Ronda-San Pedro Motorway – Will They Or Won’t They?

Although talk of a new toll motorway to run between the lovely and historic town of Ronda in Andalucia and San Pedro de Alcantara, just 10 kilometres west of Marbella on the Costa del Sol, have been rumbling on for some time, it seems that there may now be a question mark over whether the project ever goes ahead.

Ronda Bridge

The one hour journey between the two towns currently involves negotiating a winding 45 kilometre stretch of road which is consideredto be one of the region’s most hazardous.  If it still goes ahead, the planned new high-speed motorway, meanwhile, would shave the travel time down to just 20 minutes and would not of course incorporate the 365 bends which can be found along the current route.  The plans have, however, met with a degree of opposition from academics and environmentalists which may not only have slowed the project down, but brought it to a complete standstill.

New Spanish Law Aimed At Boosting Economy

Last Friday saw the Spanish government approve a new bill which is aimed at boosting the nation’s productivity and competitiveness over the next ten years by reducing reliance on the construction industry and focusing it instead on the more innovative industries such as renewable energy and biotechnology.  In its attempts to increase exports, make an impact on the country’s huge budget deficit and ensure long-term growth, the government will also be targeting the food, motor and aeronautical industries.

Could Murcia On The Costa Calida Be The Site For New Disneyland?

For those who have already done Disneyland Paris to death, news that feasibility studies are to take place into the construction of what would become Spain’s biggest theme park and a rival to the French resort, will undoubtedly be well-received.

Murcia, Costa CalidaPedro Cruz, Spain’s Minister of Culture, and Ramon Luis Valcarcel, president of the Murcia region in south eastern Spain, have recently returned from discussions in Dubai with executives from Paramount Pictures and Ruwaad Holdings, which could lead to Murcia being chosen as the site for a 2.5km2 theme park complex which would create 20,000 new jobs and could draw in millions of foreign and Spanish visitors.

Flying To Spain Just Got Even Easier With British Airways!

As one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe, particularly for the British, Spain has always been well-serviced in terms of flights.  Not only do the summer months see thousands of aeroplanes taking off from most of the UK’s airports to a variety of destinations in Spain and, of course, to the Costa del Sol, but low-cost flights are easily available throughout the course of the year.  With not only holidaymakers, but also those who make their permanent or temporary homes in Spain flitting backwards and forwards, convenience in terms of UK departure points is clearly uppermost in the minds of airlines.  In its bid to tap into this huge market, therefore, British Airways has announced additional flights from London City Airport.
